Lagos, Nigeria – Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinbu, the former governor of Lagos State, was announced as the new president of Nigeria by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, March 1st. Tinubu, who ran under the All Progressive Congress (APC) party, won with a significant margin, with the APC polling 8,805,655 valid votes against the PDP’s 6,984,520 and the Labour Party’s 6,098,588. The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) got 1,496,687 valid votes, while the fourteen other aspirants together got the remaining 666,298.

Tinubu’s supporters took to the streets to celebrate his victory, with many expressing hope for a better Nigeria under his leadership. However, some Nigerians are sceptical of Tinbu’s ability to deliver on his promises, citing concerns about his political history and close ties to the ruling elite.

Tinbu’s victory also marks a significant milestone for the APC party, which has been in power since 2015. It solidifies their position as the dominant political party in Nigeria and gives them a renewed mandate to continue their efforts to transform the country.

As the new president of Nigeria, Tinubu faces many challenges, including a deteriorating security situation in the country, high unemployment rates, and an economy that has been struggling to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with his experience as a former governor and his ambitious plans for the country, many Nigerians are hopeful that he can bring about the change that they desperately need.

The world will be watching closely as Tinubu takes office and begins his term as the new president of Nigeria. His success or failure will have far-reaching implications not only for Nigeria but for the entire African continent.
